NEW YORK—Lucky New Yorkers will be able to meet with some of the city’s most influential people when they attend the White Roof Project’s auction and raffle on Oct. 26.
Instead of bidding for items, attendees will bid for “dates” or experiences with city influentials that include lunches, shows, and tours of New York City hotspots. All proceeds from the auction will go to White Roof Project programs and painting projects.
Dates that will be up for grabs at the auction include attending the “Daily Show” with Jenifer Rajkumar, district leader & founder of W-Spin; receiving professional dating advice from Destin Pfaff of Bravo’s “The Millionaire Matchmaker”; breaking bread with Manhattan Borough President, Scott Stringer; and taking a trapeze class at Trapeze School New York with Executive Director Heather James.
The event is from 7:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. and will take place at Black Door, located at 127 W. 26th St., between Sixth and Seventh avenues. Tickets are $10.
The White Roof Project was started by a group of environmental activists in New York who want to save energy by painting rooftops white. White rooftops reflect up to 85 percent of sunlight, as opposed to 20 percent for a black roof, according to whiteroof.org. A cooler rooftop reduces temperatures inside buildings and the city in general, and can save up to 40 percent in electricity costs.
The White Roof Project also advocates for the city’s Cool Roofs program; which has coated 2 million square feet of rooftop thus far—using more than 2,300 volunteers.
