When I interviewed Tony Todd at Comicpalooza in Houston, Texas for the Oklahoma Film Critics Circle, he mentioned that he was planning to try to get some directing gigs. Bloody Disgusting announced on Monday, August 29, that Todd will write the script for his directorial debut.
Catalytic is an independent horror film that “follows a magician as he embarks on a road trip during an impending supernatural apocalypse.”
Catalytic, which is currently casting, will be the first picture for newly-formed production company Assembly Line to be written by someone outside of its managing members. The fact Todd is writing the script fits into what Todd told me would be his perfect entrance to behind the camera work.
“Ideally, I would like to do something I wrote first but recently some things have happened where I may give up the project I had originally written for me to direct, turning it over to somebody else,” Todd said. He also mentioned that he may have to start with someone from another writer that “is not a great project but is not a horrible project.”
